Processing and Application of In-Situ Tib2 Reinforced Aluminium Matrix Composites

Abstract
Aluminium matrix composites with TiB2 reinforcements have several applications in aerospace and automobile industries due to their high specific strength, stiffness, hardness and wear resistance. TiB2 reinforcements incorporated in the Al matrix via the in situ reaction has the advantage of delivering clean interface between the matrix and the particle, thermodynamic stability and finer distribution of the second phase particles. Fabrication methods of Al-TiB2 in situ composites include both liquid state and solid state processing. In this paper we provide the highlights of the development, properties and applications of in-situ Al-TiB2 metal matrix composites in the industries.
